National Upper Cervical Chiropractic Association (NUCCA)
This National Upper Cervical Chiropractic Association “NUCCA” is devoted to the life changing impact countless patients, doctors, and students are able to realize as a result of impeccable upper cervical care and the profound healing effects of the NUCCA procedure.
This gentle, non-invasive technique was developed more than forty years ago to create a radical new way of healing that can help restore body balance and perfect health. The focus of the NUCCA work is the relationship between the upper cervical spine (neck) and its influence on the central nervous system and brain stem function. It is this relationship that affects every aspect of human function from the feeling sensations in your fingers to regulating hormones, controlling movement, and providing the ability to hear, see, think, and breathe.
The NUCCA procedure is a gentle and precise correction.
A gentle touch and control contact on the first vertebra in the neck is designed to restore balance to the spine.
Even though the primary focus is the neck, the effects of the correction influence the whole spine and all body systems. This is because the NUCCA procedure influences one of the highest control centers over body balance, the brain stem and central nervous system. The C1 vertebra, also known as the Atlas, is a small donut like bone located at the top of the spine and the base of the skull that surrounds the brainstem. When the spine is subjected to stress it can become misaligned. This condition is known as the Atlas Subluxation Complex Syndrome ASC or the ASC syndrome.
The importance of spinal balance.
The nerves in her spinal column are very sensitive to pressure and stress. When the spine becomes misaligned sufficiently it stresses the nerves, compromises their normal impulses, and changes function throughout the body. Nerves are responsible for for primary functions:
Control and regulate all vital functions including circulation breathing and indigestion.
Activate muscles allowing us to move.
Allow us to sense, perceive and feel.
Relate us to the world outside ourselves including learning, experiencing and behavior.
Examining your structure and nerve system.
The process begins by looking at your detailed health history including any past traumas, motor vehicle accidents, surgeries, other treatment programs, and other diagnostic tests including other x-rays. Your chief complaints, including location, onset, and duration must all be evaluated and assessed. We are interested in your health goals and how they pertain to you being able to live the life you love.
THE UPPER CERVICAL RESEARCH FOUNDATION
At the Upper Cervical Research Foundation, we focus on the link between the upper cervical spine and optimal well-being because decades of research shows that problems in the cervical spine can cause progressively degenerative structural, neurological, physiological and pathological symptoms. Yet, when a small but measurable misalignment of the first neck vertebra, also known as the atlas or C-1, is detected and corrected, a return toward good health and normal activity can be realized.
The atlas is a small donut-like ring located at the top of the spine in close proximity to the brain stem which is the part of the central nervous system responsible for controlling vital body functions. When the atlas is subjected to stress or injury, it can become partly misaligned in relation to the skull and the other vertebrae in the neck. We call this the Atlas Subluxation Complex or the ASC. Even a slight structural misalignment of the upper neck will result in a muscular response that shifts body balance from normal and adds stress to the spinal column. This misalignment can block the communication between the brain and body causing progressively degenerative structural, neurological, physiological and pathological symptoms. But proper correction of the ASC restores spinal balance has a profound and vast impact on the body and overall well-being.
